The Spanish State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has explained the trend for the upcoming week, noting that after an extremely warm April, May has started with lower temperatures. According to the agency, “the cold environment for this time of year will continue in the coming days, and it could even get cooler towards the end of next week.”

Rain is still present in parts of Spain. The cold will be “relatively normal” during the first part of the week, but starting Friday, May 15, temperatures are expected to be among the 5% coldest recorded between 1991 and 2020. Therefore, no significant rebound in mercury is anticipated until at least next week.

Regarding rainfall, Meteored forecasts that precipitation could increase and spread across much of Spain in the following days. Even high mountain areas could see rain, aided by the drop in temperatures. While showers will be confined to Galicia and the border with Castile and León initially, they will gradually move into the interior of the northern slope. Regions such as Aragon, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, and the Community of Madrid will be affected, with rainfall reaching the Mediterranean by midweek, accumulating over 30 liters per square meter in parts of Valencia and Castellón.
Rainfall will be more intense just before the weekend in the Cantabrian area, as well as in Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, and the mountainous areas of eastern Andalusia. Meanwhile, Meteored indicates that the weekend is expected to be more stable, with rain possibly confined to the northern part of the country.
